Funny your pic shows 20-gauge buckshot.
I was 60 years old before I realized there are no OOB buckshot loads in 20-gauge.....and why.

I never realized it either. Now that you have brought it to my attention I wonder why.

I've shot some of these in a 20 Ga. 870.

It's an 'inside diameter' issue... 00 buckshot doesn't fit well in a 20ga shell.

No. 1 buck is about as large as will 'neatly stack' in the hull.

From what I've seen, No. 2 seems to be more typical. My self defense shotguns are 20 ga loaded with Federal Premium Vital-Shok 3" Magnum 18 Pellets No. 2 Buck shotshells.

    Best regards,

Isn't it still inside the wad until it exits the barrel?

No. Too much force pushing it to the side from acceleration. It'll contact the barrel.

Many buckshot shotshells are made with a 'cupless' wad... as shown below.

As can be seen in the following pictures, my self defense shotshells (post #5) are indeed constructed as shown above... with a 'cupless' wad.

    Hope this helps.

Just a note to readers...the posts above were compiled from a different thread and moved into their own thread here. The discussion was spawned from the posting of the photo in the OP.
